Snake Umbra

I have never played this card, but don't feel that it is really that great. This could be because of my natural negative disposition toward auras. I see people play it (never against me), but haven't seen it dominate games. Probably decent in U/G...maybe people with experience playing the card could give me insight.

Just dropping my 2 cents

Yeah, same old same old.

but my favorite creature to put this umbra on is stomper cub personally, the trample makes it worth it, Pellaka worm is pretty good too.

Either evasion or trample creatures are a prime target for this umbra. If you're in green, or you see this late, you might want to change your draft to this direction.

Stomper Cub gets thumbs down from me.

I really am not a big stomper cub fan, I think there are always better cards to play.

.

I really love snake umbra. It is one of the umbras that is always effective. I love putting it on BTVampire when i'm playing Jund tokens.

Gnarlid + Umbra = fun

The second Rise draft I ever did I got 3 Aura Gnarlids and 2 Snake Umbras. Swinging for four, which usually made it unblockable when I had it on the Gnarlid, and drawing a card at the same time feels like cheating.

Like Charlie said, there are ways to deal with the Umbra, and if an opponent doesn't kill the creature in response if you get it on somebody game 1, odds are Game 2 (and 3, if it goes that far) they're going to know to hold back on the instant removal until you try to play the Umbra.

Its a fine card, but I'd prefer to have it in a Gnarlid deck or maybe a U/G deck with some fliers.

Pretty Good

This usually makes the cut in my decks and sometimes is an allstar. Aura Gnarlid decks obviously love this. You don't have to have evasive creatures to take advantage of it though. Usually you can get in with a guy the turn you cast it (getting back your card right there) and then it forces them to block him from then on. Even on something as dumb as Kozilek's Predator it can cause problems. Following up a turn 2 Nest Invader with this gives you a huge advantage, their turn 2 drop probably can't handle a 3/3 and you can start removing their dudes after that. Totem Armor takes away the usual disadvantage of auras. Narcolepsy, Guard Duty, and Induce Despair are ways you can miss out, but you do usually hit once before it is answered. I've had situations where I never have a good place to drop it, but then it ends up providing insurance for something. I've had it on a Pelakka Wurm before, won that one.
