Round one
This was an intresting match up. Brian was playing a Type 2 Valaket ramp deck. I didn't see much of his build but it did not seem to have the pop and utility I'm use to seeing.
Game one
Brian won the roll and went first, and I mulled to 6. This game ended quickly, I played a turn 2 Lotus Cobra followed by a turn 3 catacombs and a Bloodbraid Elf that cascaded to a Jund Charm, 2 +1/+1 counters on the ladies and swing away.
Game two
Brian once again went first and things looked fairly good until I cast Blightning and he happily discarded two Baloths. He had been ramping nicely and followed the baloths up with a Primevil Titan, and a Valaket. I pulsed the the baloths but it was too little to late.
Game Three
I went first noting super special about this game, Cobra, Bloodbraid, Leech and other standard issue Jund goodness closed this match out nicely.
Current record 2/1/0
Round two
Time for the show down, Jund vs. Faries.
Game one
This win is the one everyone will take but nobody really likes, Chris runs head long into land problems and only sees two lands before the game is over.
Game two
Chris drops and early Bitterblossom. We go back and forth tradeing our control aspects of both decks. Eventually my removal and a well timed Fall out gave me the win for the round.
Current record 4/1/0
Round three
Ken and I saw the pairing coming and decided to draw into top 8 and find some food prior to the big rounds.
Current record 4/1/1
Heading into top 8 I am seeded 1st.
Round one
I set down across from Chris who is playing in his first tournament.
Game one
I draw a questionable hand but go with it. It has a couple cobras and only 2 lands. I proceed to drawn into no land and despite my efforts lose this game.
Game two
This hand looks much better and I get the job done with Leeches and Finks.
Game three
This game is looking good for me, Leeches and Finks are getting the job done. Chris does go for the Force reset and that buys him a little time. I am holding a couple lands drawn into a couple more and start dropping vines for the win.
Current record 6/2/1
Round two
There where some interesting choices made by other players at this event which lead to me paired up against Chris from round 2 and another match of against fairies.
Game one
Once again Chris drops the early bitterblossom and I see all the lands I was missing from game one of the last round plus a few more. We both go to work, I make a play mistake in not playing around Manaleak with lands in hand. In the end I can't keep up and once again go down.
Game two
It looks much better this time. Thoughtseieze hurts but not crippling go back to work again and Chris draws into multiple Mistbind Cliques and that eventually puts the nail in the coffin for me and I lose the round.
Final standings 6/4/1 for Third over all.
I hope this gives some insight, not sure there is much to work with because of the small turn out. Congrats again Ken and Doran of the big black white and green wood.
lucky me
We both know I got lucky when I didn't have to play you.
Lucky
Lucky for both of you I didn't even know this tournament existed and that I don't own any extended cards!!
That is pretty cool though, good win Ken. The Jund vs Doran matchup would have been a pretty interesting final though, especially from two scrappy individuals such as yourselves.
I'm excited to see what Worlds tells everyone to play in extended here soon, you guys probably aren't too far off from what I can tell.
honestly.....
If it wasn't for alan, petey, and the ovinomancer himself i would have scrubbed the hell out of the tourney. it goes to show that it pays to surround yourself with good players that all bring a different point of view to the game......
